The origins of Krasnobród are not well known. In the XVI’th century it used to belong to the wealthy family of Lipski, and became the property of Leszczyński family thereafter. The Leszczyński as its owners managed to obtained town rights for Krasnobród from King Zygmunt III Waza, which allowed them to organize 6 fairs in a alvinist Chapel where, in 1647, a synod for the Małopolska region was held.
After the wars that raged through Poland in the second half of the XVII’th century, local townsmen came across a small picture of the Holy Mother at the springs of the Krupiec Ricer, famous for its healing properties. The Holy Picture is now found in the Krasnobród Church, funded by Marysieńka Sobieska, the furure wife of the King of Poland – Jan III Sobieski.
